GLOBIO-aligned Mean Species Abundance screening
globio_msa · v1.0.0
Estimates a land-use-pressure Mean Species Abundance score and affected area using GLOBIO-aligned class fractions, alongside protected-area intersection context.
Inputs
- Asset footprint, or centroid buffer when a footprint is unavailable.
- Land-use class areas within the analysis geometry.
- Registered GLOBIO-aligned MSA fractions by land-use class.
- WDPA protected-area geometry and IUCN category for intersection context.
Calculation
The MSA score is the area-weighted mean of the registered class fractions. MSA loss in square kilometres is the sum of each class area multiplied by one minus its MSA fraction. Protected-area overlap and an IUCN-category-weighted threat proxy are calculated separately.
Outputs
- dimensionless MSA score from 0 to 1;
- estimated MSA loss area in square kilometres;
- protected-area overlap and screening threat proxy;
- geometry basis, source versions and signed manifest.
Limitations
This is a pressure-based screening method, not a species inventory. When verified land-use composition is absent, a representative mining breakdown may be used and is identified as a proxy. The protected-area threat score is not an official IUCN STAR result and must not be represented as one.
