Aqueduct baseline water stress
aqueduct_bws · v1.3.0
Retrieves the WRI Aqueduct 4.0 annual baseline water-stress category for an asset location and preserves the upstream response for provenance.
Inputs
- Asset latitude and longitude.
- WRI Aqueduct 4.0 annual analysis using the
bws_catindicator and baseline year.
Calculation
Miombo creates a point geostore for the asset location and requests the Aqueduct annual baseline analysis. The numeric bws_cat value and published label are validated before persistence. Values outside the expected range of −1 to 5 are rejected as an upstream schema or compatibility failure.
Outputs
- baseline water-stress category on the Aqueduct scale;
- the corresponding published label;
- upstream response payload and dataset version for provenance;
- assessment timestamp and signed manifest.
Interpretation
Higher categories indicate greater competition for available renewable water supply. A value of −1 indicates no data and must not be treated as low stress.
Limitations
This is a catchment-scale screening indicator resolved from a point location. It does not measure an operator's actual withdrawal, consumption, permit compliance or local seasonal constraints. Site-level hydrological review remains necessary for operational decisions.
